The following are some suggestions for things that you might want with you in the hospital. Be sure to separate labor supplies from those things used after the baby is born. Try to be packed and ready to go at least 4 weeks before you are due, so there is no last-minute rush.

  • Your insurance policy numbers
  • Items for mom to wear in hospital: robe, slippers, nightgowns, underwear, socks
  • Items for nursing: pads, nipple cream, supportive pillows, nursing bras
  • Going home outfit: something loose fitting and comfortable
  • Cell phone and all chargers
  • Focal point (picture or object) to help with breathing
  • Cosmetics: toothbrush/paste, lip balm/Chapstick, mouthwash, hair products
  • Camera
  • Music options
  • Lollypops or sucking candies

Try to leave valuables at home and do not leave unattended while in hospital. Remember, this is just a guide: not every object is needed! Pack lightly and don’t forget the infant car seat!
