The Bra Fitting Guide

The Bra Fitting Guide

Contributed by Janina Rodriguez, Assistant Yummy Mummy Store Manager and Expert Bra Fitter

Proper support in a bra is just as important as it is for a pair of shoes or a best friend. This is especially true when you are pregnant or nursing. So I wanted to share some tips on finding the right bra that is comfortable, fashionable and most importantly, makes you feel good.

What to look for when trying on a bra:

Straps – Make sure that the straps are set fairly wide apart lie flat against your back. This not only ensures that you get the right fit and support, but that your bra has a smooth fit under a t-shirt or blouse.

Support – Look for a wide underband that can serve as a foundation for heavier, growing breasts.

Cups – Pick a bra with a full cup. This not only offers better support, but also creates a smoother look.

Closure – Adjustability is a must! Look for at least a three-hook closure to ensure the right fit throughout your pregnancy.

Colors – As with all bras, it is best to stock up on colors that are closest to your skin tone for a natural look under clothing. Lace styles and fun colors are a great option for social occasions and can help you feel your best (and yourself) during this special time.

Nighttime – When your breasts are at their largest, you should sleep in a specially designed sleep bra for maximum comfort and support.

As a rule of thumb, you should buy your first nursing bra 4-5 months into your pregnancy. You will need at least three bras: one in the wash, one to wear and one to have ready.
