Dr. Kinzie Lee DNP, RNC, IBCLC

Dr. Kinzie Lee has been a registered nurse for 14 years and knew very early on that her passion was in Maternal Child health. Her first few years as a nurse were spent on a high-risk labor and delivery unit in Oklahoma City where she became certified in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing. In 2007 the Air Force moved her family to Aviano AB in Italy where she was given the opportunity to work as a home visiting nurse with military families that were pregnant or had a child under the age of three. It was there that she found her strength and passion in teaching new mothers how to feed and care for their infants. During that time, Dr. Lee obtained certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant as well as extensive training in parenting and child abuse prevention programs. In 2011 her family was reassigned to Robins AFB in GA. Initially Dr. Lee went back to work in Labor and Delivery; however, she found that she missed teaching so much that she returned to the home visiting program on base as soon as possible.

Dr. Lee graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Wyoming in 2003, became certified in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing in 2006 and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2009. In December of 2015 Dr. Lee graduated from the University of Minnesota with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Public Health Nursing.

While nursing and teaching are huge passions in her life, her family has always been her main priority. Dr. Lee’s husband of 15 years is Active Duty Air Force and they have 3 beautiful daughters together. Two daughters are in high school and one is currently in middle school. The Lee family has been here in Georgia for almost 5 years now and while their girls keep them very busy with school, dance, FFA, choir and many other activities, they still love to travel and camp in their RV whenever they can.

Shannon Benefield
Shannon Benefield

Shannon has been passionate about supporting mothers in their breastfeeding journey since 2005 when she began breastfeeding her own daughter and joined a La Leche League support group as a way to connect with others sharing this experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kennesaw State University, and an Associate of Science in Nursing from University of North Georgia. Through her own breastfeeding journey and experiences, she discovered her desire to teach, support, and promote breastfeeding -- specifically in the hospital setting -- and began to pursue further certification. She obtained certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) in 2008 while working in the Neonatal ICU, which allowed her to support breastfeeding mothers in that setting while also obtaining a second degree as a Registered Nurse. Since then, Shannon has worked as an RN in both Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care, and more extensively as a Lactation Educator for Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA, which is known for delivering more babies than any other hospital in the U.S. She obtained board certification as an IBCLC in 2015 and currently works as a Lactation Consultant for a busy private pediatric office. She is a member of ILCA, USLCA, and SELCA.

Shannon is mother to a precocious 11-year-old daughter, a Weimeraner and gray tabby cat (both rescues).  When she is not working or chauffeuring her daughter to her many performing arts activities, Shannon enjoys music, singing, movies, animals, and travel among many other things.  She also endeavors to learn ballroom dancing and resume her role in rescuing retired racing greyhounds!
